Natural Homemade Beauty Products: Skin Loving Treatments

Vitamin E can work wonders for your skin.
Vitamin E can work wonders for your skin.

If you’d like general information on homemade natural beauty products read here first. Otherwise let’s talk about some great recipes for your skin.

Easy Quick Skin Pick-Me-Up Masks:

  • Mix two to three tablespoons of aloe vera with two tablespoons of ground oatmeal. Apply as a skin freshening mask. Leave in for about 10-15 minutes and rise clean.
  • For a true baked potato mask, grate one medium potato and mix with a few tablespoons sour cream. Apply to face and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Personally, I like broccoli and cheese on my potatoes – but that wouldn’t make as nice of a mask.
  • Mix an egg yolk with the oil of one vitamin E capsule add a dash of ground oatmeal to cut down the runny quality of the egg and apply to face. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse.

Skin Salts:

I’ve talked about skin sugar scrubs before, which I actually prefer to salt scrubs. But many people enjoy a good salt scrub so I thought I’d offer a recipe. This looks like a lot of work – but it’s really not too bad plus it makes a lot at one time so you can share with a buddy.

  • 1 pound box of Epsom salt
  • 1/8 pound of sea salt.
  • ¾ pounds pf baking soda.
  • 1/8 cup of ground oatmeal.
  • 1/8 cup of ground almonds (as fine as you can get them – not crunchy)
  • 3 drops of your favorite essential oil; alternatively try a dried herb infusion (tie your favorite herbs into a piece of cheese cloth) and add this to the mix during the settle time. OR add some vanilla sticks.
  • 2 vitamin E capsules.

Whew, okay mix all the dry ingredients well. Add the contents of the vitamin E capsules (snip the end off with scissors) and your essential oils. Mix very well so that the oils don’t lump together. If you are going to add herbs or vanilla now is the time. Leave the whole mixture alone for a week or two (Make sure to leave the lid off of the container for the first few days or the oils will make the whole batch a bit damp – you want this completely dry). Now you’ve got the perfect skin scrub for your bath or shower.

I’ve heard about people using food coloring in this recipe but I never have. Supposedly you can add a few drops to get the color you’re looking for. It seems like overkill – but would probably make a good gift. If you’d like to add color, do it when you add your oils mixing it very well.

Oily Skin Treatment Mask:

Mix one tablespoon baking soda with three tablespoons of organic unprocessed bran. Add one tiny drop of tea tree oil and just enough water or milk to make a paste. Apply to your face and leave on for about 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water or a weak astringent.
