Natural Homemade Hair Care for Curls: Amazing Olive Oil
Today it’s all about problematic hair. Some of us get lucky and are blessed with nice skin. I’m one of those lucky ones. I don’t think I even had one pimple until after my son was born (wacky hormones) but my skin is still almost always clear and looks good. BUT don’t hate me yet because my hair – that’s another story. I was born with light brown curls (unruly, flip out in humid weather, can’t do hardly anything with them curls.) To make matters worse the rest of my family has nice dark shiny and sleek straight hair. I swear I wasn’t adopted although at times I wonder.
If you’ve got crazy curls or frizzy hair there’s a natural homemade solution just right for you. And best of all it comes in an easy pour bottle.
Smooth out those curls. So, I talked about my curl pain but I didn’t mention that my whole life I’ve been on a quest for that one elusive product that will tame my curls. Honestly I haven’t found it yet. But I have found one thing that make a big difference.
Basic Olive Oil: Not surprisingly a good old bottle of basic olive oil can help fight frizz and smooth curls. This is by far the messiest homemade treatment you’ll ever try – but it’s worth it.
Grab some olive oil. And none of this, “I’m on a diet” light oil either – use the real dark and rich high fat content olive oil. The darker the better. Take as much as you think you’ll need to saturate your hair. Now my hair stops right about at my waist plus I have enough hair for about three normal people so I use about a cup – cup and a half. You may use less or more. Add a few drops of essential orange oil and a couple drops of essential lavender oil. Orange oil is great for shine – the lavender I add simply to cut down on the strong olive smell. You can use plain olive oil. I have when I’ve been out of essential oils and it still works. Mix it all up and microwave until very hot (or if you live in the dark ages like me, and have no microwave, heat it up on your stove). Make sure it’s good and hot but not so hot that you’re going to burn your scalp.
Lay a towel out on your bathroom floor – or better yet sit in your tub and saturate your entire head with the oil mixture. Wrap your hair in a towel or a shower cap. Here’s where this treatment becomes very personalized. You can leave it on for any amount of time – but there is a proper time for you. Let me explain. If I leave this on for an hour not much happens. My hair seems a bit smother but not much. So I tried leaving it on overnight. That was a little too long and I spent the next two days trying to soak the oil out of my hair.
I finally, through trial and error, found out that around four to five hours is the perfect amount of time for my olive oil treatment. I have a buddy who leaves hers on overnight with no complaints but my sister who has that nice sleek hair can only do about a five to ten minute oil treatment before her hair starts to stick flat to her head. It’ll take some work but you’ll find your perfect time.
Olive oil works wonders leaving your hair shinier, smoother, and for me way less chaotic. I do this treatment about once a week. Yes, I should buy stock in olive oil. Your results might vary and once monthly or less could work. Try it and you’ll be amazed at the results.
Soon to come more homemade hair and skin treatments.

This is amazing I would have never thought to use olive oil on curls
“I used to have really good hair till the age of 25 but then suddenly due to some illness I started loosing my hair and I became completely bald. This was the most embarrassing time of my life till the time I got hold of the produced by this company. I used it for like 2 to 3 months continuously and see now I have got my hair back as healthy as ever. Thanks to this amazing make
This is so true !
I've been using olive oil all my life , since i have sparse, dry, frizzy hair. And since Im Indian, its only natural for me to have grown up using hair oil . :D While olive oil alone might help tame frizzy/curly hair, I've found a mixture of castor oil, olive oil and coconut oil works best for my hair type. Also , to help the hair absorb the oil better , i either heat the oil mixture or wrap a towel dipped in hot water around my hair to steam it.
Tip : I just buy 100 ml bottles of the three different oils , and mix them in a bigger bottle , so i dont have to mix them everytime i want to condition my hair.

I am looking forward to trying the hot olive oil treatment. I have one question. Should I just rinse it out with water or should I shampoo it out of my hair?
Thanks for good information about oil treatment. i really like this post!!!!!
olive oil and tea tree oil are one of the best treatments for natural hair, because it does not weigh the hair down and instead gives shine and moisture.
Loved your info, and this does work wonders!!! I linked to you from my hub as well!
Thanks for this. it sounds like we have the same hair. this might help me out a lot!!!
great hub! I like cocoa butter, avocado oil & w/coconut oil also. I have frizzy hair too.
My hair is sholder length curly and very dry & frizzy... how long would you reccomend leaving olive oil on for me?
There are many, many more benefits to using olive oil. Check it out at www.amazingoliveoil.com
I've use olive oil once every week and my hair always feels great. I'm currently transitioning from relaxed hair to natural and realize that my hair loves olive oil cause it loosens my natural hair making it manageable and it's the best detangling agent I've ever seen. I style my hair with virgen coconut oil which reacts as a gel.
Jennifer,
This isn't something I need to do, or even could do, because my hair is the easiest thing I've got on me to work with, lol. My hair would soak up oil like a sponge and I'd be a month trying to wash it out.
But, for those who have this hair issue that so many contend with, it's a wonderful hub with excellent information that's simple to do with ingredients that are easy to obtain.
Well done!

Olive oil really does do wonders. Not just for hair though...I use it on my face too...love the stuff
